Returning to Guangzhou

Lara Riding in the Bus with Grandma
Saturday, March 30, 1996 - The next morning we were off early, back to Guangzhou. I hated to leave Yangchun. It was the happiest part of the trip for me, and I would have liked to have had the time to explore my baby's home town. But I knew that some others in the group didn't feel the same way at all. Some didn't like the unfamiliar food, some felt uncomfortable with the foreignness. And I knew we were being rushed back to Guangzhou so that Mr. Gu could spend his time helping the family that had lost their child find another one.

So there was nothing to say or do but quietly vow to return with Lara with she's older. On the first evening, when I told Lara's foster mother that we would return one day to Yangchun, she seemed sincerely happy and told us that she hopes we will and that we will always be welcome.
