It's time to make plans to join us at the 2004 Yangchun Reunion. The Reunion will be held Thursday, July 22nd through Sunday, July 25th in Colonial Williamsburg.
Join us for a long weekend of fun activities, gatherings and reconnecting! We're planning on a Chinese Cultural Market, several group meals including those celebrating the Chinese heritage of our families and the Early-American heritage of our country! And we're planning on a few very special guests joining us from China! Mrs. Yu has heard about the reunion and is very excited to join us.
It takes a multitude of volunteers to plan and carry out a reunion of this size. If you have an area of expertise that you can contribute, please let us know. Especially as the reunion gets closer we'll need people to help ensure everything goes smoothly. We'll need help at the reunion in registration, activities and coordination. We're also very interested in obtaining the help of local people who might be able to serve as `area guides' before and/or after the reunion for those families who'd like to extend their stay in Williamsburg.
Janice Berger () has
been coordinating lodging with our hotel in Williamsburg.
Betsy Egan () has maintained the Yangchun Development Fund over the years and is helping keep the process moving forward.
Fil Folden () and Sharadon Smith () will be coordinating activities during the reunion.
Lisa Forrey () is working on communications and miscellaneous details.
Barb Noble () is working on a Cultural Market for the reunion as well communication for the event.
Carolyn Tavares () has again given us a key link: talking directly to Mrs. Yu as well as supporting us in a multitude of tasks.
We're also fortunate to have two of the key planners from the last reunion acting as consultants (and so much more) for us this time: Susan Mack () and Sharon White (
The hotel we've chosen is the Woodlands
Hotel & Suites. The Woodlands Hotel and Suites is "conveniently
located right at the
starting point of the 18th century. You can follow the Nature Trail to the historic area or just hop on a convenient shuttle." Amenities include a swimming pool, miniature golf, table tennis, and shuffle board.
We're going to be at the Woodlands Hotels and Suites from Thursday, July 22, 2004 through Sunday July 25, 2004. We will have both regular guest rooms and suites available. As in Colorado, families will have the option to extend their stay prior to or after the reunion.
As we get closer to the reunion, each family will be able to make individual reservations directly with the hotel but we still need to reserve a block of rooms for our group as well as meeting rooms and banquet facilities. Families will individually pay for their rooms but most meals (we're estimating about $150/adult and a little less for kids), facilities and activities will be arranged by the Reunion Committee. The registration cost for each family will detail those costs. Watch for more information on this.
We've been able to negotiate room rates of $109/night for a regular room (2 queen beds) or $149/night for a suite (1 king bed with double pull-out sofa; living room, bedroom; frig, and microwave). We will send the pre-registrants the Group Number needed to reserve rooms at the Woodlands. We need to make final contract adjustments at the hotel, and to facilitate this, need a non- refundable deposit from each family of $50. This will cover costs associated with reserving the hotel facilities and costs of different group activities and insure families will be included in the reunion.
It is our hope that we'll be able to bring Mrs. Yu and a travel companion over to visit many families again this reunion. Please consider sending in a donation along with your travel deposit made payable to the Yangchun Development Fund. And even if you don't think your family will be able to join us in Williamsburg, your contribution will help Mrs. Yu see as many families as possible. In 2000, we were able to have Mrs. Yu and Director Chen come for the reunion in Colorado, then visit Nebraska, New York, Washington D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia and Seattle. We're hoping we'll be able to afford a similar kind of visit this reunion as well.
In order to facilitate planning, please send your $50 deposit check made out to "Yangchun Reunion" by April 30, 2003 to Yangchun Reunion, 930 East Ninth Ave, Broomfield, Colorado 80020.
Please include this pre-registration form with your deposit. Rooms are limited and availability will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Later registrations may be limited.
We look forward to hearing from you soon as you make plans to join us. Please share this with any of your friends who are off-line or not on the Yangchun Families e-mail list!
